New Crew Chief for the #38:

Disappointed with its 21st position in the Busch Series owner point standings, Akins Motorsports has announced that Gere Kennon will replace crew chief Jon Wolfe on the #38 Great Clips Dodge. “Due to the ever changing level of competition in the Busch Series and the need for team chemistry, we are forced to do some restructuring, which comes with the release of crew chief Jon Wolfe and car chief Roger Johnson,” said Akins Motorsports owner and general manager, Doug Stringer. “Their efforts and assistance have been greatly appreciated by Akins Motorsports. We feel that the addition of Kennon will have a positive impact on our performance.” Kennon, a Memphis, Tenn., native, was recently crew chief on the #99 Busch team with Michael Waltrip Racing. Prior to working at MWR, Kennon was the competition director at Innovative Motorsports for five years. To his credits, he has recorded two Busch Series Championships and 31 victories in NASCAR’s top-three series.
