#38-Elliott Sadler won the Budweiser Pole for the UAW-Ford 500 at Talladega Superspeedway with a fast lap of 189.260mph for his 3rd pole of 2005, 2nd at Talladega and 5th of his career. #29-Kevin Harvick WAS to start 2nd but the overflow tube for the fuel tank was missing and NASCAR disallowed Harvick’s run and will start 42nd now. So, #88-Dale Jarrett will start 2nd followed by #12-Ryan Newman [best starting Chaser], #20-Tony Stewart and #01-Joe Nemechek. Points leader #48-Jimmie Johnso will start 9th, 2nd in points, #2-Rusty Wallace lost an engine during his 1st qualifying lap and will start 41st and then from the back after changing the engine. #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start 20th. #1-Martin Truex Jr. was the highest non top-35 team, who had to get in based on speed, qualifying 17th. #32-Bobby Hamilton Jr., who was fast in practice failed to qualify for the race, along with #09-Sauter and #89-Shepherd.
