A rough night at the race track brought the same results for driver #39-Ryan Newman wn the Dollar General 300 at Lowes Motor Speedway for a record tying fifth series victory in the drivers five most recent series starts, surpassing the consecutive win streak of four straight established by Sam Ard in 1983 and tying Dale Earnhardt Jr., who won five consecutive Busch races during a stretch from 2002 at Richmond to 2004 at Daytona. There were a record 14 caution periods for 67 caution laps and two red flags for extensive clean-up. #90-Elliott Sadler placed second followed by #11-Paul Menard, #60-Carl Edwards and #32-Jason Leffler. Completing the top-10 were #47-Jon Wood, #40-Sterling Marlin, #25-Ashton Lewis, Jr., #8-Martin Truex Jr., and #72-Kevin Lepage. Series point leader #8-Martin Truex, Jr. used strategy to pick up five bonus points for leading a lap by not pitting under a caution, then methodically drove to a ninth place finish. #2-Clint Bowyers championship hopes in his challenge of Truex took a hit when he smacked the wall after contact with #21-Kevin Harvick. Bowyer eventually returned to the race to posted a 33rd place finish. The 49-point difference between the two at the start of the race grew to 128 by the end. Pole sitter #48-Jimmie Johnson slapped the wall on lap 28 and finished 43rd. Only 19 of the races 43 starters were on the lead lap at the finish.
