Kasey Kahne took the Bud Pole today at Darlington Raceway and by doing so stamped himself as the instant favorite for Saturday Night’s Dodge Charger 500. Seeing as how all three of Kasey’s career wins have come after starting from the pole…..it’s a natural. Kasey’s 3rd pole of the season (and 9th of his career) came with a speed of 29.096 (169.013 mph) around this venerable egg-shaped oval. Ryan Newman will start alongside tomorrow night.
Clint Bowyer (3rd) has his career-best starting spot this weekend. His previous best was 8th at Phoenix last month.
David Stremme (4th) has his career-best starting spot this weekend as well. His previous best was 17th at Talladega last month.
Travis Kvapil (18th) has his best starting spot since he lined up 12th at Martinsville last October.
Derrike Cope (33rd) has his best starting spot since he qualified 31st at Texas in April of 2004 (only 15 races).
