Boris Saids chances of finishing in the top-10 seemed doomed after a stop-and-go penalty relegated the road course ace to the back of the pack in Saturdays Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen International. But thanks to a risky pit strategy from crew chief Trip Bruce, Said made up his lost track position and closed out the day with an eighth-place finish. Bruces performance earned him the WYPALL Wipers Crew Chief of the Race. The #9 Ingersoll Rand Dodge experienced brake problems early in the event, which caused Said to overshoot the inner loop section of the track on lap 6. Said served a pass through penalty the following lap, which moved him from sixth-place to the 35th position. Since the team was near their pit window, Bruce made the call to bring Said in for service on lap 8, but elected not to change the tires. The decision to forego fresh Goodyears put Said back up front and allowed him to score a top-10 finish.(Wypall PR)(8-13-2006)
