H&K Motorsports is a new NASCAR team that is going to be based outside the Mooresville NC area. Their planned drivers are Trevor Boys [last Cup race in 1993], from Calgary, Alberta [Canada] and Eddie Kucharski from Denton, TX. Boys and Kucharski will both be competing in the ARCA Re-Max Series in 2007 to re-qualify their NASCAR licenses. Boys has over 15 years racing experience, including some in the former Nextel [then Winston in 1993] Cup Series. Once Boys re-qualifies for his NASCAR license, H&K Motorsports plan to run him in the Nextel Cup Series and Kucharski will compete in the Craftsman Truck Series. Boys is the longest running Canadian in NASCAR. He competed in over 112 Nextel Cup Races [note: records I found (racing-reference.info) has Boys having 102 Cup starts with two top 10’s running races between 1983-1993, his best finish was a 9th at Richmond 1983 in the #48 Chevy].(H&K Motorsports site), the team made an announcement early in 2006 that the would run 15 Cup races with Boys out of a shop in Statesville, NC, but that never happened. The car supposedly will be the #08.(1-22-2007) UPDATE: With the number of full-time NASCAR Nextel Cup teams already up sharply from 2006, another new team will attempt to run a full Cup schedule this year. H&K Motorsports said Wednesday that it will field a full-time Cup effort this year, with Trevor Boys piloting the #08 Chevy with sponsorship from Gsmdashboards.com, Industro Tools and Chixcanfix.com. Guiding Boys this season will be Cicero Scott, the cousin of New Orleans Hornets coach Byron Scott. Cicero, according to the team, is the first African American crew chief in the premier series of NASCAR. The team will also run at least six NASCAR Busch Series events this season, plus at least 20 more in the ARCA RE/MAX Series for driver Eddie Kucharski. The new team did not test at Las Vegas and will face enormous pressure just to qualify in the first five races this season and attempt to gain a guaranteed spot in the field from the sixth race and beyond, when the top 35 cars in 2007 owner’s points will be guaranteed spots in the field.(SpeedTV.com)(2-1-2007)
