Aikman subs for Schroeder as starter at California:

Troy Aikman isn’t accustomed to filling in as a sub, but he gladly accepted the role Sunday when asked to wave the green flag for the Auto Club 500. The NFL Hall of Famer replaced actor Rick Schroeder, who was scheduled to do the honors before telling California Speedway officials Saturday that he couldn’t make it. Speedway officials were scrambling to find a replacement. Getting another actor wasn’t a good option in Southern California on the day of the Academy Awards. But Aikman already was at the track. He’s the co-owner of Hall of Fame Racing with another former fellow Dallas Cowboys quarterback — Roger Staubach. They own the #96 DLP Chevy driven by Tony Raines.(ESPN.com), Aikman also threw footballs out to the crowd from the flagstand.(2-26-2007)
