Rusty Wallace, Inc. will hold a press conference Sunday morning in Atlanta to announce its 2008 driver and sponsor lineup. The team is expected to run 2 cars, one with Steve Wallace and the second with Chase Austin splitting driving duties with a Cup veteran. UPDATE 2: Expect an announcement Sunday in Atlanta that David Stremme will run a 20-race schedule of Nationwide Series races next season for Rusty Wallace, Inc. Sources close to the team tell Sirius Speedway that Stremme will split the schedule with youngster Chase Austin, running all the companion events with the Sprint Cup Series. Stremme is still rumored to be in the running for the handful of rides still open on the Cup side for 2008, as well.(Motorsports Soapbox)(10-25-2007)
UPDATE 3: Rusty Wallace Racing announced that the team will field two full-time entries in the 2008 NASCAR Nationwide Series. Steve Wallace will continue full time in the teams #66 car for 2008, while its new #64 entry will feature several drivers. David Stremme will pilot the #64 in at least 17 2008 events, while Chase Austin will drive the 64 car in 15 races during the 2008 season. The team plans to put a well-known road racer behind the wheel of the #64 for the three Nationwide Series road course events in 2008. Team officials are currently in discussions with several drivers regarding that role and plan to name a driver in the near future. In addition to its driver announcement, the team also announced an agreement with General Motors and its Chevy nameplate, under which each Rusty Wallace Racing entry will be a Chevy in 2008. Providing backing for both teams in the majority of the 2008 events will be Atlanta, GA-based Atreus Homes and Communities, currently known as HomeLife Communities.(RWI PR)(10-28-2007)
