NASCAR Announces Rules Changes for Nationwide Series: UPDATE:

NASCAR has issued two major rules changes for the 2008 Nationwide Series season, both designed to save teams money. The first is a tapered spacer on the engine that will be used at all non-restrictor-plate races. The spacer acts like a restrictor plate, cutting horsepower and extending engine life. The second is a hold on the brake package teams use, meaning no upgrades to brake systems will be permitted in 2008.(SceneDaily.com)(1-16-2008)
UPDATE: Nationwide Series Director Joe Balash says the series will handle the new tapered spacer much the same way it does restrictor plates. The new spacer will be used in all non-restrictor plate races in the Nationwide and Craftsman Truck series this year as NASCAR tries to lengthen engine life and reduce horsepower. Balash said NASCAR will distribute a random spacer to every team at every track. Each will have a serial number so NASCAR can account for them.(SceneDaily.com)(1-30-2008)
