* Kyle Busch won the Dollar General 300 powered by Coca Cola at Chicagoland Speedway. Busch scored his 16th series victory in his 127th career start. He scored his fifth win in 19 starts in 2008. Busch led 101 of the 200 laps in the race. He led the most laps for the eighth time in 2008. Busch has led the most laps in five of the six 1.5-mile races; he has won three of them (Texas, Lowe’s and Chicagoland).
* The victory by the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing car was the fourth of the 2008 season; the car has won four of its 10 starts. JGR scored its 13th win of the season, tying the record for most wins by a team in a single season. The record was set last year by Richard Childress Racing.
* Toyota posted its 14th win of the 2008 season. Toyota posted its sixth 1-2 finish of the 2008 season and second consecutive. Toyota drivers led 184 of the 200 laps in the race. Four of the top five finishers were Toyotas.
* The average speed for the race set a new track record at 144.446 mph. It broke the old track record of 135.661 mph.
* The three cautions for 15 laps also set a new track record for fewest number of cautions and caution laps. The old record for number of cautions was six (twice — most recently in July 2007). The old record for caution laps was 46, set in July 2001.
* Denny Hamlin, who finished second, started 43rd in the race after starting at the rear of the field due to an unapproved adjustment prior to the race.
* Clint Bowyer, who finished seventh, posted his series-leading 17th top-10 finish of the season.
* Landon Cassill, who finished 10th, was the highest-finishing rookie of the year contender.
