Team owner Curtis Key announced that Key Motorsports will run its first full-time entry in the Nationwide Series in 2009. Leading the effort in the Key Motorsports shop is crew chief Tommy Morgan, who formerly served as the team’s competition director since 2007. Key Motorsports plans to continue their longstanding manufacturer relationship with Chevy. UPDATE: Shortly after announcing that his team will compete full-time in the Nationwide Series for the first time, team owner Curtis Key has named Scott Wimmer to pilot the Key Motorsports Chevy for the first three races of 2009. Additionally, Key announced that the team’s NNS entry will begin 2009 with a new number, changing from #31 to #40. The switch was made to re-brand the car to match the team’s full-time Camping World Truck Series entry. Wimmer, 33, has agreed to race the #40 Chevy for three races: Daytona, Auto Club, and Las Vegas.
