Alan Gustafson, crew chief for the #5 Cheez It/Carquest Chevrolet driven by Mark Martin, has been named the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Race following Saturday’s Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. Martin, who qualified 12th, ran into some trouble early in the race when some lug nuts fell off, sending him to the back of the field. But with the help of successful pit and track strategy from his team, Martin charged his way back up towards the front of the pack. In addition to the $1,000 check, the winning crew chief will receive signage to announce the win on their pit box the following week. The crew chief with the most weekly wins will be honored as the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Year and will be presented a $20,000 check at the season finale in Homestead.(Wypall Wipers PR)(5-12-2009)
