Fridays event will be the second NASCAR race thats fallen on September 11; the first was a NASCAR Sprint Cup race also at Richmond in 2004. On the eighth anniversary of 9/11, Benny Gordon and the #72 team will be part of a special tribute. Earlier this year, Gordon and his team approached the National September 11 Memorial and Museum committee with their tribute; a specially-designed paint scheme that would be unveiled in front of first-responders in New York before racing at Richmond. The unveiling took place Aug. 31 in Manhattan near Ground Zero. First-responders signed the car that will be on display on the midway. Thursday at 2 p.m., retired FDNY Lt. Mickey Kross, who was trapped in the North Tower for 48 hours after its collapse, presented Track President Doug Fritz with an American flag that flew over Ground Zero. Kross, Gordon and Fritz raised the 9/11 flag on THursday which will fly over the track until after the NASCAR Sprint Cup race Saturday night.(RIR)(9-11-2009)
