For the second consecutive year, Elliott Sadler and the #19 Stanley Dodge are changing their look with a pink paint scheme for the NASCAR Banking 500 Sprint Cup Series race on Oct. 17 at Lowes Motor Speedway. The pink paint scheme is in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Sadler on Racing for the Cure: My Mom has always been by my side and my biggest fan. Last year when she walked out to the starting grid in Charlotte and took a picture with me in my pink Stanley/Susan G. Komen for the Cure firesuit in front of my pink #19 Dodge she told me it was one of the most special moments of her life. That entire weekend was extremely special to me. The folks at Susan G. Komen for the Cure came out to our Stanley hospitality and did one of the most interesting hospitality experiences Ive ever been a part of it started by asking who in the crowd has ever had a family member or friend diagnosed with cancer and within three questions everyone in the tent was standing up. It just goes to show you how many people have been touched by not only breast cancer, but cancer of any kind. Everyone knows someone close to them that’s had to battle cancer.” Sadlers mother, Bell, was diagnosed with breast cancer on June 30, 2007. Susan G. Komen representatives met with Mrs. Sadler at the fall Charlotte race in 2007 to let her know what to expect in her battle with breast cancer. Mrs. Sadlers breast cancer has been in remission for more than a year. The #19 Stanley/Susan G. Komen for the Cure Dodge features breast cancer survivor Brandy Hickmans name on the TV panel. Brandy Hickman is the winner of the Stanley Lady in Pink essay contest. Mrs. Hickmans winning essay is posted at www.stanleymotorsports.com. Stanley is donating a minimum of $50,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support the breast cancer movement. Richard Petty is wearing a brown Charlie 1 Horse hat with pink highlights throughout the Charlotte race weekend in support of breast cancer awareness. Sadlers #19 Dodge always features two ribbons next to his name above the drivers side doora pink breast cancer awareness ribbon in honor of his mother and a puzzle piece autism ribbon in honor of his niece.(RPM)(10-13-2009)
