UPDATE 2: For the first time in the history of a NASCAR national touring series, a father and daughter duo will compete against each otherand it’s all happening at Talladega Superspeedway. Mike Wallace announced today that he and daughter Chrissy will compete against each other during the Mountain Dew 250 fueled by Fred’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 31. “NASCAR, the sport and the series, has been good for the whole Wallace family. It’s personally very rewarding to have the opportunity to compete against Chrissy at Talladega, but the biggest reward is seeing a young person follow her dream and pursue her career. I’m happy that she’s picked this avenue, but more importantly, this is what she wants to do.” Wallace said Chrissy has everything she needs to be successful in NASCAR, but cited a tough economy as one of his concerns for race weekend. “We could also use some help with sponsorship dollars. We are both going to compete regardless, but anybody that would like to come along, we’d love to have them.” [Truck # TBA](Talladega Superspeedway PR)(10-9-2009)
UPDATE 3: Mike Wallace will pilot the #48 Chevrolet for Andy Hillenburg. He has 113 series starts with four wins and finished fifth last season in the NCWTS race at Talladega. Chrissy will be behind the wheel of an entry for Rick Ware Racing. Though this will mark the first time for a father-daughter duo, father-son combinations have appeared across NASCAR’s national racing series all throughout its 61-year history. Lee and Richard Petty; Richard and Kyle Petty; Bobby and Davey Allison; Buck and Buddy Baker; Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are just a few. In the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Mike and Dustin Skinner, the late Bobby Hamilton and Bobby Hamilton Jr., and Ron Hornaday Jr. and Ronnie Hornaday have raced each other.(NASCAR PR)(10-12-2009)
UPDATE 4 Chrissy Wallace regarding prospects for 2010: “As of right now I’ve been guaranteed to run two truck races this year for Rick Ware Racing. We might run a third race. But the big thing is just sponsorship. Rick Ware’s team is looking for sponsorship, I’m looking for sponsorship, and the big thing is anybody could come on board with us and have multitudes of different teams so their name was on the car. So we’ve just got to go out there and find a sponsorship, and once I’m able to do that, then I will be running full time.”(NASCAR PR)(10-22-2009)
