Kyle Busch won the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway, posting his 29th career victory in his 171st series start. Busch’s 29 wins rank fourth all-time. He won his fourth consecutive series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The last driver to win four straight at a track was Jamie McMurray at Rockingham. The record for most consecutive wins at a track is five by Dale Earnhardt (Daytona) and Jack Ingram (South Boston). The only track Busch has more wins at is Lowe’s, with five. Busch led six times for 179 laps including the final 45. He has now led more than 2,500 laps in 2009 across three series.
Busch posted his eighth win in 2009, the most among all drivers. His last win came at Lowe’s three races ago. He won the race from the sixth-place starting position. Only 13 drivers have more career wins than Busch’s 18 in the past two seasons. It was his 61st NASCAR National Touring series win (16 Truck, 29 Nationwide, 16 Cup). It was his 19th win of 2009 (seven Truck, eight Nationwide, four Cup). It was the third time Busch has won the Truck and Nationwide races on the same weekend. No driver has ever won all three races in the same weekend.
Busch’s championship lead over Carl Edwards is 272 points. He will become the 21st series champion if he finishes 15th or better at Phoenix.
Brad Keselowski (fifth) scored his 21st top-5 finish of 2009, and his 15th consecutive top-10 finish.
The top 10 consisted of four Toyotas, three Chevys and three Fords. Bobby Hillin Jr. (23rd) was the highest-finishing Dodge.
