Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and Mark Martin driver of HMS’ #5 Chevy, are scheduled to make an announcement at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Saturday afternoon, September 4th.(9-3-2010)
UPDATE: Quaker State and Hendrick Motorsports announced an expansion of their unparalleled technical relationship, which will increase exposure for the motor oil brand in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Beginning in 2011, the three-year agreement includes primary placement for Quaker State on the #5 Chevy in four Sprint Cup races annually and associate sponsorship of all Hendrick Motorsports cars. Quaker State also will continue to be poured in the more than 80 Hendrick Automotive Group franchises throughout the United States. Quaker State’s technical relationship with Hendrick Motorsports began in 1996 and helped produce a Sprint Cup championship that first season with the #5 team and driver Terry Labonte. Mark Martin, winner of 40 Sprint Cup races, will drive the #5 Chevrolet in 2011. Quaker State’s four races as primary sponsor of the #5 car will be determined at a later date. “The new Quaker State paint scheme looks awesome,” Martin said. “I’m not sure how a paint scheme can look fast, but Quaker State and Hendrick Motorsports did it with this one. I can’t wait to race it and hopefully take it to Victory Lane.”(HMS), see an image of the scheme on my 2011 Team Schemes page.(9-4-2010)
UPDATE 2: from a Team Chevy Press Conference Transcript, Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports:
Q) WHAT’S THE SITUATION ON THE #5 CHEVROLET FOR NEXT YEAR? FOUR RACES FOR QUAKER STATE AND WHAT ELSE?
Hendrick: “GoDaddy.com is coming back so this about fills us up. There is one more sponsor that we haven’t announced. But we’re pretty much done.”
Q) ON UPCOMING SPONSOR ANNOUNCEMENTS
Hendrick: “I don’t really want to go into that. We’ve got a lot of our folks coming back and I’m not really sure how many we’ve got committed in what area. But we’re getting close. We’ll be announcing in the next 60 days. In the past we would announce mid-year but companies now waiting later and later to make announcements. We plan to have everything done by the end of November.”
Q) WOULD THAT REQUIRE HENDRICKCARS.COM TO BE ON ANY CARS TO FILL THAT?
Hendrick: “Oh, it could be. I enjoy that if I can afford it (laughter). It’s worked real good for me in the past. I think that probably if I could win Daytona or run up front with the Hendrick cars logo, it would be something I’d really like to do one day. But we don’t know if that’ll ever happen.”(Team Chevy)(9-5-2010)
