Excerpts from Scene Daily article — Stacy Compton isn’t ready to say his days as a driver in NASCAR are over. But the owner of Turn One Racing will admit that he’s enjoying his new role, one that encompasses team ownership and beating the bushes in search of fresh, young talent. Turn One fields two trucks in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series, one for 20-year-old driver Cole Whitt and one for 30-year-old Justin Marks. Heading into tomorrow night’s UNOH 225 at Kentucky Speedway, Whitt sits second in the points standings (he trails leader Johnny Sauter by 20 points), while Marks is currently 16th, 98 points behind the leader. Not bad for a team that is competing with as much as one-half the budget of some of the bigger, better-known teams in the series. Eventually, he said, he would like his organization to be a developmental team for Nationwide and Cup programs, where drivers can get acclimated to the series while getting seat time. I’d love to have been a development team for Red Bull, but with them getting out of the ownership side of it, obviously that’s not going to happen,” he said. “Maybe a Rick Hendrick or an Earnhardt Ganassi or a Tony Stewart deal … who knows? I’d love to be able to talk with some of these guys at some point and be that development team that can bring rookies along. But we’ll continue on. The way our budget is set now, we’re good through Daytona of next year if we don’t get one more penny. But we certainly are digging and scratching as hard as we can right now to make sure that we have two fulltime teams next year.
