Testing at Michigan:

While they werent on record pace, NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers #78-Kurt Busch and #21-Trevor Bayne spent valuable time testing at Michigan International Speedway on Tuesday in advance of the Quicken Loans 400 here on June 16. Unlike last Aprils Goodyear tire test at the newly repaved MIS, when speeds of almost 220 miles per hour were reached by cars diving into Turn 1 on the 2-mile oval, Busch and Bayne were more interested in feedback from their new Gen-6 cars. ‘Just trying to get a feel for the Goodyear tires and balance of this Gen-6 car, as a lot of little things on the car we didnt have last year. Im glad we came to test’ said Busch, who drives the #78 Chevy for Furniture Row Racing. ‘If we had to unload (in June) and work in a quick hour and half, we would have been behind.” Busch said the car was still very quick heading into the first turn at MIS and he expected speeds to creep up toward Marcos Ambroses astonishing qualifying record of 203.241 in last years June Cup race at the track in the Irish Hills. Busch and Bayne were the only Cup drivers to test on Tuesday at MIS. They are scheduled back on track Wednesday. Bayne, who is driving a partial season in Cup for the Wood Brothers and a full Nationwide Series schedule for Roush Fenway Racing, said Tuesdays test session was all about getting to grips with the tires and Gen-6 car.( Detroit Free Press )
