The two Richard Childress Racing crewmen arrested on misdemeanor assault charges for a fight with Nelson Piquet Jr. following the Nationwide Series race at Richmond International Raceway plan to complete 24 hours of community service and hope the charges are dismissed. Michael Scearce and Thomas Costello, both suspended by NASCAR for four races and fined $15,000 following the incident, each face one misdemeanor assault charge from the April 26 fight, which occurred in the RIR driver/owner lot. Scearce originally faced two charges but one of those was dropped during their court appearance last week in Virginia. Their attorney, Clinton Cleary, said that they plan to perform 24 hours of community service prior to their next court date, Oct. 8. The completion of community service in this type of case typically results in the charges being dismissed.( Sporting News )
