Three generations of Gillilands to race each other at Irwindale:

Former NASCAR K&N West Series champion Butch Gilliland will dust off his old racing uniform to take on his son and grandson ‘” current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver David Gilliland and up-and-coming late model driver Todd Gilliland ‘” in a Super Late Model Series race at Irwindale Speedway on July 19. The 75-lap feature event will be the first time the three generations of Gillilands will compete against each other on track. Fifty-six-year-old Butch won the 1997 championship in the West Series with son David serving as his crew chief. Butch also competed in 10 Sprint Cup Series and 12 Camping World Truck Series races. He has not raced professionally since 2002. Thirty-eight-year-old David is currently the driver of the #38 Ford for Front Row Motorsports in the Sprint Cup Series. Irwindale is one of the West Coast tracks where the California native developed his racing skills and also where he earned his first asphalt win. His infant son Todd, just three weeks old, was in Victory Lane for the celebration. Now 14, Todd is in his first full season of stock-car racing, which has already included his first late-model pole and win at Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, N.C., in May.(Breaking Limits)(7-8-2014)
