Per a post on the Carl Long Motorsports Facebook page: “Motorsports Business Management’s [XFINITY teams 13 & 40] main owner”¦driver Derek White will be driving in our #13 Dodge next week at Loudon. Derek is also going to start in his first Cup race. The team Derek is driving for, will put out a press release shortly. Derek will be the first North American native to compete in the Cup series. There are many people in racing with Native Indian bloodlines, however Derek still lives and works on the Kanawake Reserve outside Montréal.”
UPDATE: White tweeted Monday afternoon, “Big news I’ll be in the #33 car Sprint Cup Series New Hampshire Speedway next Sunday”.(7-12-2015)
UPDATE 2: Derek White, a Mohawk residing in Kahnawake, just outside of Montreal, Canada, will make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut at New Hampshire International Speedway this weekend in the #33 Circle Sport Chevy SS. With 22 national series starts between the Camping World Truck and Xfinity Series to his credit, White will become the first Native American driver in Sprint Cup Series competition with his start in Sunday’s New Hampshire 301. In addition to Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, White also will drive in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday as part of the White Motorsports season commitment to that series. The extra track time will provide White better knowledge of the track and allow him to make the most of his debut in the Sprint Cup race on Sunday. With a background in drag racing that spans more than 30 years, White has been racing stock cars since 2009, earning 2010 Rookie-of-the-Year honors in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series before transitioning into NASCAR’s top national touring series, the NASCAR Camping World Truck and Xfinity Series. In addition to his racing in the United States, Derek’s White Motorsports also competes in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series with rookie driver Marc-Antoine Camirand and support of Grafoid, Braille Battery and O.C.R. GazBar.(Circle Sport)(7-15-2015)
