Bowyer filling in for Stewart was never an option:

Filling in for injured Tony Stewart to start this season was never an option, Clint Bowyer said. He is committed, hopeful and a little bit apprehensive about his bridge year with HScott Motorsports, during which Bowyer will try to help the tiny team grow and stay competitive while waiting for Stewart’s seat to open full time. ‘I think you can sneak in (to the Chase for the Sprint Cup) and win a race,’ Bowyer said. ‘If you could do that, that would be monumental for a team like this, in a situation like this.’ Bowyer was hired last fall to be Stewart’s replacement when Stewart retires from full-time Sprint Cup competition this year. Stewart subsequently suffered a broken back in an off-road buggy accident. Although Bowyer’s team and Stewart’s share technology, other contracts in place would make an early switch difficult. ‘There’s not the resources, the manpower that I’ve been accustomed to. Five hundred employees at RCR, 275 I think at MWR. I think it’s 40 here. But at the end of the day I really enjoy (owner) Harry (Scott). He’s a good guy. (Crew chief Steve) Addington, I’ve watched him win a lot of races, have success in this sport over the years. ‘¦ It’s a year and we’ve got to make sure we make the most out of it.’(Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
