Joe Nemechek sets all-time starts record

Joe Nemechek set a NASCAR record for national series starts on Friday night when he took the green flag in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series Ford EcoBoost 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Nemechek made start number 1,186 – his 69th in the Truck Series – driving the No. 8 Chevrolet for his own team.

“I’m just so thankful to NASCAR for the opportunity that I’m still able to be here,” Nemechek said. “I get calls from some of these teams that say come in and help and evaluate where we are. Even though our cars are different you just do it. I have been doing this 29 years, which is a long time and I still love it.”

Richard Petty held the previous national series mark with 1,185 career starts, all at NASCAR’s highest level.
