Chase Elliott earns $100K for virus relief with Gander Trucks win over Kyle Busch: On his first try, the bounty hunter got his prey. In the closing laps of Tuesday night’s North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott held off a determined charge from Kyle Busch in the closing laps to earn the victory and a $100,000 bounty offered to any full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver who could beat Busch. Not bad for a guy who hadn’t competed in a NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race since 2017.(Read More)(5-27-2020)
#24-Chase Elliott won the NC Education Lottery 200 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday night. It was the first time the trucks have hit the track since the season was brought to a halt in March due to COVID-19. The win is Elliott’s first of 2020 and third of his career.
#51-Kyle Busch finished second, followed by #21-Zane Smith, #23-Brett Moffitt, #2-Sheldon Creed, #8-John Hunter Nemechek, #13-Johnny Sauter, #45-Ty Majeski, #16-Austin Hill, and pole-sitter, #99-Ben Rhodes.
With the win, Elliott secured $100,000 in his name toward COVID-19 relief. Initially, Kevin Harvick offered up $50,000 outright to any Cup Series regular to beat Busch in the Truck Series, but that was before the pandemic. In the series return at Charlotte, Harvick altered the offering, along with another $50,000 being matched by series sponsor Gander RV & Outdoors CEO Marcus Lemonis.
There were 19 lead changes among 10 drivers and 7 cautions for 37 yellow flag laps.
