Watkins Glen president optimistic of keeping race date

No changes have been made to the race schedule at Watkins Glen International and track president Michael Printup said Friday he is confident the NASCAR Cup Series weekend will be held in August, though there’s a chance there will be no spectators.

The Go Bowling at The Glen is scheduled for Aug. 16 and includes NASCAR Xfinity Series and ARCA support races.

Fans or no fans, there will be need for additional precautions for any race weekends. Among the bullet points are disinfecting bathrooms at least twice a day and constant sanitization of them as they are used. It would also include someone at doors limiting the number of people using bathrooms.

Printup said there’s also the likelihood of pre-wrapped concessions and condiments, adding such changes would be cumbersome but necessary.
