Dave Marcis was decidedly Old School, and his friend Dale Earnhardt was absolutely against the use of full-face helmets and new-fangled contraptions such as the HANS Device.
What Marcis opted to use instead were shoulder straps that helped keep his head in place during accidents. It was a decision he credited with saving his life in a vicious crash at Pocono.
