The Scene Vault: Paul Andrews Goes To Work For Alan Kulwicki

By Rick Houston

Alan Kulwicki was different from just about anything the NASCAR world had ever seen, and it took a special kind of person to work for him.

Paul Andrews was that special kind of person.

Andrews had known Kulwicki from their days running against each other on the ASA circuit, but it took prompting from Rusty Wallace for Kulwicki to hire him. Kulwicki was an exacting boss, but that was okay with Andrews. With Andrews standing by in the pits as his crew chief, Kulwicki became the most successful driver/owner of the late 1980s and 1990s.

And the 1992 Winston Cup champion.

This is Paul Andrews’ story.
