What’s old is new again, Landon Cassill will be returning to JD Motorsports for a full NASCAR Xfinity Series season in 2021.
Cassill has signed on to drive the No. 4 Chevrolet in all 33 races this upcoming season. The Iowa native has made 95 starts with JDM across five seasons, including the full 2014 campaign. That year, he scored three top-10 finishes and placed 12th in the championship standings.
“Johnny and his team in Gaffney [S.C.] mean the world to me, and it’s a great honor to be back in the No. 4 Chevy,” Cassill said in a team press release. “We’ve done so much together, and look forward to accomplishing more this season. He’s got a great lineup of drivers to work with this season, and I can’t wait to see what we all get done together.”
Cassill is coming off a season in which he made just four starts at the national touring level, all start and parks for Shepherd Racing Ventures in Xfinity. Prior to the 2020 campaign, he was replaced by Quin Houff at StarCom Racing after spending the 2018 and 2019 seasons in the Cup Series driving the No. 00 Chevrolet.
Johnny Davis, owner of JD Motorsports, is excited for what’s to come with Cassill and the veteran status he brings to the team.
“With his experience that he’s been through – he’s been in the sport since he was the age that some of our younger drivers are, so I think he will be a good leader for our other drivers,” Davis said in a statement to Jayski.com. “Our young drivers need someone with that leadership ability.”
Davis also confirmed that Cassill will be bringing back some sponsors from the past, but those will be announced at a later date.
In addition to Cassill, JDM has announced Colby Howard and Jeffrey Earnhardt will return to the team in 2021, both of whom ran partial schedules last year.
