Sad News – Steve Moore

Steven “Steve” Willard Moore, age 65, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024. Born on November 6, 1958, in Carroll County, Georgia, Steve was the son of the late Willard C. Moore and Hildred Heath Moore.

From a young age, Steve had a passion for cars, (especially fast ones). At age 14, he was working in the shop at his Dad’s Chevrolet dealership and a few years later, parlayed that into another family business, Moore Towing. He started out drag racing at local tracks and in 1977, qualified and participated in his first of quite a few NASCAR Grand National races at Talladega. Over the next 11 years, Steve also raced at the major speedways of Atlanta, Daytona, Michigan, Charlotte, Rockingham, Darlington & Pocono, all on a shoestring budget. Steve was ever mindful of his dear friends and local businesses that supported him in his racing career. Finally in 1988, he attained his highest pursuit, he qualified for and ran in the Daytona 500.

That same year, he obtained his used car dealer license. Steve owned and operated Moore Truck Sales with his wife, Sheila, by his side. He specialized in offering quality used work vehicles for 35 years. In addition to his career, Steve was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Carrollton and enjoyed classic cars.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila Moore; sister, Stephanie Allyn; nephews, Hunter and Spencer Allyn; and niece, Ansley Allyn.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 3 PM at Roopville Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the service hour at the church. Following the service, interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to IPAW (Independent People for Animal Welfare), 107 Curtis Ct., Catlettsburg, KY 41129 or via [email protected]; or Open Hands Christian Ministries, PO Box 1818, Carrollton, GA 30112.
