Sad News – Marion Hudson

Marion T. Hudson, 79, of Powhatan, VA passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Marion was born in Richmond, VA on May 5, 1945. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Georgia Tomlin. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Tim; daughter, Monica Waters (Jeff); son, Charles Hudson (Kristen); granddaughters, Laney and Lindley Waters, and Julia Wilson (Cole); and grandson Drew Hudson. Marion is also survived by her sister, Margaret Glenn; and brother, Tommy Tomlin.

In addition to her love of family, Marion loved racing. She spent almost 50 years as an official starting at short tracks across Virginia and eventually was promoted to assistant scorer for the NASCAR Busch Series. Marion was one of the first female NASCAR officials. Additionally, she ran the control tower during practice and qualifying for the Busch Series for many years. She was elected as the first president of the Busch Series Grand National Ladies Association, Inc. in 1997. In 2001 she joined NBC/TNT Sports as a broadcast statistician. Many in the media, both print and broadcast, marveled at her ability to record each car in the correct order as they crossed the finish line.
