Goodyear Racing Notes: Pocono Raceway

Goodyear will introduce a new right side tire for this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway that combines technology unique to the “Tricky Triangle” with learnings from its intermediate track tire specifications.

The new Goodyear Racing Eagle right-side tire combines the compound run at Pocono last year with the construction used at several intermediate tracks this season.

While the left-side tire is new to Pocono, it is already familiar to teams. This weekend will be their fourth consecutive race on this specification, after Charlotte Motor Speedway, Nashville Superspeedway and Michigan International Speedway.

NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series teams will run the left-side specification they most recently used at Dover Motor Speedway, alongside a right-side tire introduced at Iowa Speedway last August. As is standard on tracks one-mile and longer, the 15-inch tires will also use inner liners.

“Pocono is perhaps the most unique oval track we visit,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager. “At the same time, our tire philosophy here draws on our intermediate track package, which is reflected in the Goodyear Racing Eagle tires we have selected this weekend.”

Goodyear Racing Eagle tires are also in action this weekend in France at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and at Bristol Dragway for the Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals.
