NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series teams are in action for a second consecutive weekend of road course racing out West, where they will once again run Goodyear’s proven road course tire setups.
The Goodyear Racing Eagle tire packages for this weekend’s event at Sonoma Raceway are identical to those run last weekend at San Diego’s Naval Base Coronado, but the hilly, flowing northern California track is very different from last weekend’s course.
Introduced at the start of last season, so far this year the Cup Series has run this tire package at Circuit of The Americas (COTA), Watkins Glen International and San Diego.
The current 15-inch road course tire, which the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will race on Saturday, was introduced at Sonoma last year and has also run at every road course since then.
Unlike Goodyear’s oval track tire packages, the same tire specification is used on both sides of the car. Teams in all three series also have wet-weather tires available if required.
“The Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setups for this weekend are very familiar to teams, especially after running them last weekend in San Diego,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager. “While Sonoma is very different from San Diego, with significant elevation changes and a more traditional permanent road course layout, these tire setups have consistently performed on road courses, so we expect the same this weekend.”
Goodyear Racing Eagle tires are also in action this weekend at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio.
