Few venues hold more significance in the NASCAR journey of Hall of Fame team owner Jack Roush than Nashville Superspeedway – making it a fitting stage for a landmark offering from the famed Roush Automotive Collection during Mecum Auctions’ inaugural Nashville event Sept. 22-26.
For more than two decades, Nashville Superspeedway has been woven into the fabric of Roush’s racing legacy. In 2001, Roush Racing and future NASCAR star Greg Biffle won the inaugural NASCAR race at the facility, delivering Biffle’s first career NASCAR Busch Series victory on the way to a championship season and launching one of the most successful driver development pipelines in modern NASCAR history. Over the years, Roush-owned teams would go on to score a NASCAR-record eight victories at the track across multiple series, while Jack himself became a familiar figure above the speedway skies, performing ceremonial flyovers in his famed P-51 Mustang aircraft before Nashville events.
This month, that racing history returns to Nashville in a different form.
Selections from the legendary Roush Automotive Collection – curated over 38 years of collecting, restoring and preserving race cars, performance vehicles and motorsports artifacts – will headline Mecum’s Nashville auction with an extraordinary lineup of competition vehicles, one-offs, historic race cars and classic American performance machines. Offered in conjunction with the 50th anniversary celebration of Roush Industries, the event marks the first time vehicles from the private collection will be made publicly available to collectors and enthusiasts.
The company founded by motorsports icon Jack Roush has spent decades building a reputation for engineering innovation, championship-winning race programs and high-performance automotive development. The motorsports organization, including RFK Racing, has earned more than 30 national championships across multiple disciplines while helping shape modern NASCAR, road racing and performance engineering through relentless innovation and competition. The Roush Automotive Collection, located in the Detroit metropolitan area, grew from those accomplishments and now houses more than 150 vehicles and countless artifacts representing the spirit and history behind the Roush name.
Beyond the race wins and trophies, the collection also reflects Jack Roush’s personal passion for preserving and sharing automotive history. As part of the company’s 50th anniversary celebration, Roush made the decision to open portions of that legacy to the broader automotive and racing community through this historic offering.
“There’s a lot of legacy, hard work, passion and history tied to these vehicles,” said Jack Roush. “They represent people, ideas, races and moments that helped shape Roush over the last 50 years. I’ve always believed cars are meant to be driven, experienced and appreciated, and this felt like the right time to share some of that history with people who truly love automobiles and racing.”
Among the highlights headed to Nashville is the aforementioned 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback featuring a 460 CI short-block Pro Stock V-8 personally built by Jack Roush. Another featured offering is the famed 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra “Nobody’s Fool” IMSA Road Race Car that earned a class victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona with drivers including Paul Newman, Tommy Kendall and Mark Martin. Also included is the dominant 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra SCCA Trans-Am car driven by Tommy Kendall to a record-setting 11 victories and a championship season for Roush Racing.
The collection also includes historic NASCAR race cars driven by drivers including NASCAR Hall-of-Famers Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch and Jeff Burton, along with a variety of landmark ROUSH Performance vehicles, specialty concepts and vintage automobiles tied directly to Jack Roush’s personal automotive journey.
Two NASCAR vehicles will be auctioned for charity: Greg Biffle’s 2004 Ford Taurus will benefit the Biffle Family Fund, while Matt Kenseth’s 2012 Ford Fusion will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
For motorsports enthusiasts, collectors and NASCAR fans alike, the Mecum Nashville auction will offer a rare opportunity to own a direct piece of one of the most influential legacies in American racing history.
