U.S. District Court Judge Lacy Thornburg on Friday denied a request by Hendrick’s attorneys to delay the trial, saying Hendrick failed to show sufficient reasons for the delay. “While respectful of the gravity of Hendrick’s situation, this federal trial court is under an obligation to the public to bring `those accused of criminal misconduct promptly to account.’ Defendant Hendrick has not demonstrated to the satisfaction of this court that his medical condition should bar his being brought to trial in August,” Thornburg wrote. The trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 11 in Asheville(thanks Mark Poff and the AP 7-12-97)
