BGN driver Gary Laton is listed in good condition Wednesday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as he continues to recover from injuries he suffered in an accident during Qualifying last Thursday at Michigan Speedway in Brooklyn. Laton was moved to a private room earlier this week. The tracheotomy tube that has been helping Laton breathe normally since the accident is expected to be removed today. A CT scan was negative and doctors have been pleased with Laton’s progress. Laton is up and walking around, but is still “battered and bruised” from the accident. The hope is that Laton can return home to North Carolina as early as this weekend.(NASCAR Online) (08-19-1998)
