IRL driver native Scott Sharp had been rumored to be the leading candidate to drive for Foyt, who makes his return as a Winston Cup owner in 2000, but a source close to Foyt confirmed that Ted Christopher (BGNN/BGN/Modified) is under consideration. Foyt could not be reached for comment. Sharp, who is under contract with his current IRL team through 2000 and would not be able to run full time for Foyt. Christopher, who has is looking for a full-time BGN ride, said he hasn’t been contacted by Foyt. Sharp said there is very little, if any, chance he will be in a Winston Cup car next season for Foyt. Foyt’s first choice for his Cup team was reportedly Kenny Irwin, who will be released from the #28 Yates Ford after this season. But Irwin reportedly will sign a deal with Felix Sabates.
