Evernham Announcement — It’s Official:

Ray Evernham is ready to announce at least one of his drivers this week at Atlanta Motor Speedway. And he’s preparing for a major media event at Homestead in three weeks, putting his first NASCAR prototype Dodge on the track(PitNow)(3-5-2000) UPDATE: Ray Evernham is scheduled to announce his first driver, expected to be Bill Elliott, for his Dodge racing team at a news conference Friday March 10th at 9:35am/et at the Atlanta Motor Speedway(That’s Racin’)(3-6/10-2000) UPDATE 2: Ray Evernham named 1988 Winston Cup Champion Bill Elliott to drive for one of his two Dodge Intrepid teams in 2001, but get this, he will be in the familiar car #9. The driver for the second Evernham Motorsports entry, car #19, will be announced at a later date. Also moving to Evernham Motorsports with Elliott will be key members of his current leadership at Elliott Racing, most notably general manager Eddie DHondt and car chief Mike Ford(NOL) no word on what number Melling Racing will switch to in 2001 and the #9 by the way: It’s the same number Elliott drove to the NASCAR Winston Cup title while driving for Melling Racing from 1982 to 1991 and in which he got 34 of his 40 race wins, the other 6 were when Elliott drove the #11 for Junior Johnson from 92-94. Also from That’s Racin’ – As part of Elliott’s move to the Dodge organization, he will become a part owner in the #9 team and Evernham will purchase Elliott’s current team and all its assets(that means Owners Points and Provisionals for 2001, if needed, plus the Past Champ Provisional.
