looks like the Bobby Hamilton rumor was incorrect(choke) and ESPN2’s NASCAR 2Day is reporting that Ron Hornaday and Randy LaJoie(didn’t he just sign with Joe Nemechek for a BGN ride?) are the two rumored drivers(9-17-2000) UPDATE: One of the men #7 owner Jim Smith is looking to sign to drive for him next season is Busch driver Randy LaJoie. However, Lajoie has insisted he’s not interested in a Cup ride(PitNow)(9-18-2000) UPDATE 2: Sources say Ron Hornaday will become the driver of (#7) Ultra Motorsports’ Winston Cup effort next year. Hornaday likely will be reunited with crew chief Fred Graves, who recently left Petty Enterprises. Hornaday and Graves won two Truck championships with DEI and are said to work very well together. Owner Jim Smith has hinted at two Truck teams next year (Mike Wallace and Dennis Setzer are the drivers now, but Smith has not committed) and possibly two Cup teams. The Trucks will be Dodges, but Smith has not said finally that the Cup team or teams would switch to Dodge(SpeedVision)(9-26-2000) UPDATE 3: The LTN Radio show is reporting that Ron Hornaday is a done deal as the driver for the #7 Ultra Motorsports car and that the team will stay with Ford (from Talladega on) and Penske engines for the 2001 season and NOT switch to Dodge(9-28-2000)
