Latford Retires:

Bob Latford, a living constant in NASCAR racing’s history, worked his final race in the press box Sunday at Rockingham. Latford has been working in motorsports media- and public-relations for 55 years. His first job was selling programs for the beach race at Daytona Beach in 1946 for NASCAR founder Bill France, the father of one of Latford’s school classmates, Bill France Jr. Latford has worked in the PR offices at several tracks and has directed press box operations at many others over the years. He also helped devise the points system currently in use in NASCAR’s top divisions. He also publishes a weekly newsletter, The Inside Line, and is considered one of the sport’s leading historians(That’s Racin’)(10-23-2000)
