Even though the race was not held on Sunday, the tracks farewell to retiring Darrell Waltrip did go off as scheduled. Among items presented to Waltrip were: A rocking chair from Dale Earnhardt. A mounted steering wheel from Jeff Gordon A commemorative Kelloggs Corn Flakes box from Terry Labonte A crystal cross from Dale Jarrett A print of the famous crash in the 1987 Winston after which Waltrip said he hoped winner Rusty Wallace “chokes on that $200,000.” Wallace also presented Waltrip a sack of fake money representing what he “stole” from Waltrip in that race. A poster of Waltrip and brother Michael, along with $200 Michael said he “borrowed” from his brother in 1986. A set of golf clubs and a round of golf at Augusta National. A Georgia state flag, an enlarged replica of the Waltrip-themed NAPA 500 program, and an Honorary Citizen of Georgia designation.(Gaston Gazette)(11-20-2000)
