Labonte/Petty HS Grads: Terry Labonte found time last night, barely, to attend daughter Kristen’s high-school graduation in Trinity, NC, borrowing a helicopter from brother Bobby to make the sprint up, despite heavy thunderstorms. “After sitting in the principal’s office a couple of times for her fighting in school, I never thought I’d get her graduated,” Labonte said with a laugh. Kyle Petty’s son, Austin, was also graduating, but Petty didn’t have the luxury of a possible champion’s provisional. “Austin has really buckled down since Adam’s death and got serious about school,” Petty said. “He wants to be an engineer and he’s set to go to Pfeiffer next year. He was in some kind of honor society, and he got some medal for four years of honor work. He and Montgomery Lee are both a lot smarter than myself and Adam were.”(Winston Salem Journal)(5-25-2001)
