#18 and #20 Brakes at Sears Point: #18-Bobby Labonte and race winner #20-Tony Stewart’s Pontiac’s were equipped with AP brakes for the first time this season. AP Racing has been in the racing business making brakes and clutches for over 50 years. Over the last 30 years, Formula one driver and constructors championships have been won on AP brakes. Over the past two months there have been several teams in both Winston Cup and Busch Grand National testing the new brake system. Jimmie Johnson and Hank Parker Jr, two of the fastest cars during testing at Watkins Glen recently had AP Brakes on them. Supposedly the Joe Gibbs Racing Pontiacs are the first Cup cars to run the brakes in a race. Coy Gibbs in the #20 truck in the tested the brakes and has had them on the truck since Martinsville. In the Watkins Glen BGN race, I hear the have the following cars will use the AP system: #43-Jay Sauter, #92-Jimmie Johnson, #56(52?)-Hank Parker Jr, #01-Andy Santerre, and #25-David Donohue(6-25-2001)
