Tires at Phoenix: Goodyear will have to go back to the drawing board on the tire it uses for Phoenix. Despite the teams’ experience with using the same compound at New Hampshire and Richmond, temperatures in the 90s at Phoenix played havoc with the tires. Goodyear spokeswoman Caroline Ashbee said temperatures were 30 degrees hotter than they were for the Phoenix race last season. Leaders Rusty Wallace and Casey Atwood, plus Bobby Hamilton, Sterling Marlin, Ken Schrader, Michael Waltrip, Kenny Wallace (twice) and Nemechek, blew tires.(Sporting News)(10-29-2001)
