Congrats: NASCAR.com staff writer Tim Packman has won first place for having the best column in 2001 in the Internet Writer’s category from the Eastern Motorsports Press Association. In addition to that award, he also took second place in the feature story competition, as well. Packman wrote a column in October titled, “We’ve said enough goodbyes” after the death of Blaise Alexander in an ARCA race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The column also touched upon safety in racing and the death of Dale Earnhardt. The second place feature story was called, “Dale Earnhardt changed the face of NASCAR” and was written after the seven-time champion died in a last-lap accident at Daytona last February. The story is part of the Earnhardt Tribute section on NASCAR.com. The winning column comes with a $100 prize and a plaque. Packman is going to donate the money to a charitable organization that honors the memory of Alexander.(NASCAR.com)(2-2-2002)
