Harmons’s car to Talladega Museum:

Mike Harmon delivered his wrecked #44 BGN racecar and the remaining pieces to Talladega on Friday. The car was placed on display at the International Motor Sports Hall of Fame and Museum located at the Talladega International Superspeedway. A large number of media representatives covered the arrival of Mike and the car. Harmon’s car was destroyed on August 22nd in a spectacular crash during practice at the Bristol Motor Speedway. The car went hard into the wall entering turn two, crashed into an un-secured crossover gate, which cut the car in half. The racecar was then hit by another car narrowly missing Harmon in the now exposed driver’s seat. Harmon walked away with only a few scratches from this horrific accident. The wrecked car has now been placed inside the Talladega museum for all to see. ” I have been visiting this museum for many years and have always dreamed of being a part of it, Harmon said, I just didn’t imagine I would get in under these circumstances. I really hoped I would get in for a championship or something and not the worst wreck, I hope that brighter day will be coming soon.” He continues, ” I am happy however that everyone will be able to see this car. I hope that we can all learn something good from it. I am just really thankful I was able to get out of that mess alive.” The International Motorsports Hall of Fame & Museum is located between Birmingham and Atlanta, just north of Talladega, Alabama, on Speedway Boulevard just off I-20 and lies adjacent to the Talladega Superspeedway.(Racing Systems PR)(9-14-2002)
