Truck series points leader #62-Brendan Gaughan, rumored to move up to the Busch or Winston Cup series next season, plans to run again for the Truck championship in 2004. Gaughan, who has four wins with his unsponsored #62 Orleans Racing Dodge this season, said Friday Dodge officials have told him not to worry about the future and concentrate on winning the series title. “They want this Truck championship and I want it. I was the last guy to win a championship for them (Championship Off Road Racing in 1995) and I want to bring it back,” Gaughan, 28, said. “They’ve given me the ability to have piece of mind and they are going to make sure I will be part of their program.” Gaughan said Dodge was working with his team to secure a sponsor for next season and would plan to run some Busch and Cup races in 2004 as well. Gaughan said Dodge would then work to help him secure a full-time Winston Cup ride in the 2005 season. “We want to make sure we are a top Dodge program. We believe we’ve earned it and our performance has more than showed than we earned it,” Gaughan said.(ThatsRacin.com)(9-12-2003)
