Once again, Phoenix International Raceway (PIR) testing was done under record-breaking temperatures. On Tuesday, a new record was set at 103. Wednesday, drivers ran with temperatures hovering near 102 degrees. Still, most teams found themselves running faster testing times than last year. While official times weren’t kept by PIR, cars were clocked around 27.5 seconds [130.909mph] on some of the late morning and early afternoon runs. Drivers testing were #31-Robby Gordon, #16-Greg Biffle, #25-Brian Vickers and #24-Jeff Gordon. Ticket sales have been hot for the Checker Auto Parts 500 NASCAR Weekend at Phoenix International Raceway in two weeks. There are a limited number of very good seats remaining for all four races over the weekend, and they can be purchased by calling the PIR Ticket Office (602) 252-2227, 1-800-PIT-SHOP or via the internet at www.phoenixraceway.com .(10-23-2003)
