Robby Gordon was uninjured in a single-car accident with approximately 10 minutes remaining in Monday’s Indianapolis 500 practice session. Gordon lost control of the #70 Meijer/Coca-Cola Dallara-Chevrolet in turn one and hit the wall. Gordon was checked and immediately released from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway infield medical center. The car received left-side suspension, underwing, rear wing and bodywork damage and Gordon plans to drive his team’s backup Meijer Chevy in Tuesday practice. “I went down into turn one and the car compressed in the corner and the rear got a little bit sideways,” Gordon recalled. “I tried to save it and it hooked back the other way and spun around. It is what it is. When you can walk away from one here, it doesn’t matter how fast you were going. We were going to run four straight hot laps on new tires and our warmup lap was over 218 mph. I think we were going to be pretty good. We’ll be fine.” Gordon finished the session, delayed by rain, 10th fastest at 218.446mph.
