Skinner wins pole at Las Vegas:

#5-Mike Skinner set a track qualifying record of 165.320mph to grab the pole Saturday for the Las Vegas 350 NASCAR Craftsman Truck race set to start less than three hours after qualifying ended. Skinner, who won his first truck pole in eight years, beat the old mark of 163.112mph set by David Starr in October 2002. Skinner noted that while he hasn’t been on a truck pole since October 1996 at the former Sears Point Raceway, he has competed in only 31 truck races since. It was his 16th career truck pole. #46-Dennis Setzer qualified second on Saturday at 163.959 mph, followed by rookie #17-David Reutimann, #16-Jack Sprague, #21-Hank Parker Jr. Points leader, #4-Bobby Hamilton will start 8th. The top nine qualifiers all beat Starr’s old record. The race was the first of a pair of nighttime races featuring two different sanctioning bodies.
